Grand Theft Auto VI now has a release date, box art, pre-order pages and pricing. What it does not have, as of late June 2026, is a single official word about a PC version. For console players the countdown to November 19 is real and running. For PC players, there is no date, no storefront, and no confirmation a PC version is even in development, despite years of assumption that one will eventually arrive.
This article separates the two categories that get blurred constantly in GTA 6 coverage: what Rockstar has actually said, and what history and industry logic suggest is coming next. Every claim below is labelled as one or the other.
What Rockstar Has Confirmed
Rockstar's own Newswire post confirms Grand Theft Auto VI launches Thursday, November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That date itself was a delay from an originally announced Fall 2025 window, then a subsequent shift to May 26, 2026, before Rockstar settled on November and explained the extra time was needed to finish the game with proper polish.
Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026, across digital storefronts and select retailers including the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Rockstar's own storefront, and retail partners such as Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Target and GameStop. Two editions are available: a Standard edition at $79.99 and an Ultimate edition at $99.99. Physical copies ship without a disc, containing only a download code.
Nowhere in any of that official communication, not the release date announcement, not the pre-order announcement, not the cover art reveal, does Rockstar name a PC version, a PC release window, or a PC storefront. That silence is consistent and, at this point, clearly deliberate.
What Take-Two's Own Leadership Has Said
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has given genuinely mixed signals on this over the past year, and it's worth tracking the shift. In November 2025, he said the games industry is moving toward PC and toward more open platforms. In February 2026, he went further, saying PC has become a much more important part of what used to be a console-first business and that he expected that trend to continue.
Then in May 2026, his tone shifted back toward the traditional Rockstar playbook. He said Rockstar always starts on console because a launch like this is judged by how well it serves its core audience, explicitly calling console players Rockstar's "core consumer." That's the most recent public statement from Take-Two leadership on the subject, and it lines up with every console-first GTA and Red Dead launch Rockstar has ever done.

The GTA 5 Precedent
The single most reliable data point available is Rockstar's own release history, because the pattern has been consistent for over a decade. GTA V launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 17, 2013. It came to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014. The PC version didn't arrive until April 14, 2015, exactly 18 months and 28 days after the original console release. The game later launched again on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in March 2022, nearly nine years after its original debut, proof of just how long Rockstar is willing to stagger a single title's platform rollout.
Red Dead Redemption 2 followed the same shape: console first, PC roughly a year later. Nothing in Rockstar's public behaviour since suggests GTA VI will break that pattern. If GTA VI follows the exact 18-month GTA V timeline from its November 19, 2026 console launch, that points to a PC release around mid-2028. Some outlets and analysts believe Rockstar could move faster this time given how much larger the PC gaming market has become since 2013, with estimates suggesting a window as early as 2027, but none of that is confirmed by Rockstar in any form.
Confirmed vs. Speculation, At A Glance
Confirmed
- Console launch: November 19, 2026, PS5 & Xbox Series X|S
- Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026 (Standard $79.99 / Ultimate $99.99)
- Physical copies ship as a download code, no disc
- No PC version, date, storefront, or specs announced by Rockstar
Speculation / Not Confirmed
- Any specific PC release date or window
- Which storefront carries it (Steam, Epic, Rockstar Launcher, or all three)
- PC system requirements or PC pricing
- Whether the PC gap will be shorter than GTA V's 18 months
Where GTA 6 Will Most Likely Land On PC
No storefront has been named, but the field narrows quickly based on GTA V's own numbers. Steam remains the dominant PC storefront by a wide margin, and GTA V's Steam presence backs that up: the original Legacy version still averages tens of thousands of concurrent players in 2026, over a decade after release, with an all-time peak of more than 364,000 concurrent players recorded on its April 2015 PC launch day. The newer GTA V Enhanced edition, released in early 2025, has already posted its own peak north of 187,000 concurrent players on Steam.
The Rockstar Games Launcher is also a near-certainty as at least a secondary storefront, since Rockstar has increasingly routed its own PC releases through it in recent years. Epic Games Store can't be ruled out either, given Take-Two's past willingness to use it, though it's unlikely to be the exclusive home for a release of this size.
The Honest Bottom Line
Strip away the guesswork and the picture is simple. Console players have a real date circled on the calendar: November 19, 2026. PC players have historical precedent, some encouraging comments from Take-Two's CEO earlier in 2026, and one much more cautious comment from that same CEO in May 2026 reaffirming Rockstar's console-first approach. Based on the GTA V timeline, a PC version realistically lands somewhere in the 2027–2028 range, but until Rockstar issues an actual announcement, that remains an educated guess, not a release date. Treat any article, video, or forum post claiming a confirmed GTA 6 PC date as wrong, because as of today, that information doesn't exist.
